SUMMARY:Canadian Fall Prevention Curriculum 2017 E-Learning Course
DESCRIPTION:This new course and accompanying textbook reflect extensive revisions from current evidence on fall risk assessment and prevention\, as well as fresh approaches to successful and sustainable interventions based on proven strategies from the field of implementation science. \nTwo sessions of this on-line course will be offered internationally through the University of Victoria. The first\, from September 22nd to October 27th 2017\, with instructor Bobbi Symes\, MA and the second from October 20th to November 27th 2017\, with instructor Phil Groff\, PhD. \nIf you work with older adults in long term care\, acute care\, home care or in the community\, this updated 5-week e-learning course will help you acquire the knowledge and skills needed to apply an evidence-based approach to the prevention of falls and fall-related injuries. Through online\, instructor-facilitated learning modules you will:\n•       study 4 to 6 hours per week\, including engaging in peer discussion forums 
\n•       learn how to design\, implement and evaluate a falls prevention program 
 \nUpon course completion you should be able to: 
\n•       define the scope and nature of the problem of falls 
\n•       provide fall risk identification and assessment 
\n•       provide a selection of prevention interventions reflecting evidence-based strategies 
\n•       understand social policy and context of falls\n•       provide application of a program planning model 
\n•       evaluate the effectiveness of a fall prevention program
