Caritas home care services provide affordable and efficient professional care at the person’s home. They supplement private care supplied by the family, thus leaving women the choice to be professionally active or, sometimes, to even build own their caring expertise and return later to the labour market as professional carers. They also supplement care by the community, where it exists. At the same time, the subsidiarity principle makes them part of the formal social and health sector, for which local and national governments share the responsibility.
