This is a freely downloadable Dutch home exercise booklet based on the seated exercise shown to improve strength and flexibility. It is meant for those older people who have very poor balance and are unable to do much standing exercise. On its own it does not reduce falls, however, can be used to prepare someone for standing exercises aimed at improving balance.
Based on two research trials (Skelton et al, 1995, 1996), produced by Later Life Training and translated into Dutch by the VeiligheidNL Foundation in cooperation with Val and fracture prevention Flanders. It should be given as an additional home exercise programme in conjunction with a group based class, however, if there are no classes available then the older person can do these at home, with the aid of resistance strength exercise bands.
