Three simple Assessment Tests to assess the Patient’s Risk for Falling

Researchers at CDC’s Injury Center have created the STEADI Tool Kit expressly for health care providers who treat older adults who are at risk of falling or who may have fallen in the past.

The website provides three simple assessment tests healthcare providers can do in their office to assess their patient’s risk of falling. These are tests of mobility (The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test), strength (the 30-Second Chair Stand test), and balance (The 4-Stage Balance Test). To perform each test, a chair with a straight back and a stop watch is needed. Please refer to the videos and documents on the website for specific instructions on how to conduct each assessment test.

The website can be viewed here.
